The Overlook House

The Friends of the Overlook House protects, promotes, and administers the historical Overlook House as a community center for the benefit of the neighborhood. The Friends sponsor cultural, educational, and social activities and provide space to honor life's milestones.

Stewardship of the Overlook House is provided by the volunteers of Friends of the Overlook House through a special agreement with the City of Portland's Office of Neighborhood Involvement / North Portland Neighborhood Services and Parks and Recreation.

Puppet Shows at the Overlook!

Penny's Puppet Shows

Penny will be hosting regular affordable puppet shows in the welcoming warm environment of the Overlook House. All ages are welcome. Guests can sit in chairs or on the floor while they play with puppets and dancing scarves along with shake egg shakers or settle in with a book. This is participation for all program with singing, clapping, and wiggling encouraged. Free Coffee and Tea and Stickers for all to enjoy. Tickets available at the door. These Puppet shows will be in the Basement of the house and there are stairs (sorry, no wheel chair access) So please be prepared to leave strollers on porch or carry them down the stairs.

Northbound from Interstate 5:

• Take Exit 303 (Swan Island) and proceed over viaduct to first light.
• Turn left and proceed .3 miles on Interstate Avenue.
• Turn right on N. Overlook Blvd.
• Proceed two blocks.
• Veer Left onto Melrose Drive (one way).
• The Overlook House is located on the left.

Southbound from Interstate 5:

• Take Exit 303 (Swan Island).
• At first stop sign (Alberta Street) turn right.
• At first light (Interstate Avenue) turn left and proceed .5 miles.
• Turn right on N. Overlook Blvd.
• Proceed two blocks.
• Veer Left onto Melrose Drive (one way).
• The Overlook House is located on the left.

Max (Portland’s Light Rail System):

The Interstate Max/Yellow Line "Overlook Park" Station is three blocks form the Overlook House. After getting off at the Overlook Park stop, walk North on Interstate to Overlook Blvd. (Away from the Kaiser buildings). Walk west on Overlook Blvd., along the park, for Two Blocks and proceed Left on Melrose Drive (one way). The Overlook House is located on the left.
